Dealer.com Challenge – SEO vs Search Engine Marketing
Posted by: | CommentsSearch engine marketing is a great way to generate immediate traffic. What is often overlooked by by car dealers is the real value of a well optimized site and an aggressive SEO campaign. A recent post I did about dealership web traffic I referenced another post from Dealer.com on Drivingsales.com and feel that it was misconstrued based on the replies by Dealer.com.
Pay Per Click advertising has it’s place like for special promotions or a fresh site. However at the end of the day there are so many studies out there that show that SEO provides better value than Seach Engine Marketing or PPC. One of the best explanations was from Hubspot.com.
Their simple study showed that ranking number nine generates the same amout of leads and traffic as the number two paid listing.
From the post at Hubspot:
Here are the key takeaways from the data and the images above:
1) Organic results get 75%+ of the attention. People don’t click on the ads nearly as much as the organic results.
2) The first organic result gets over 25% of all clicks. Within the organic results, the first result gets the most clicks by far – more than double the second result.
3) Within the ads, the first ad also gets the most clicks. But, since you pay per click for the ads, you should care less about volume and more about if the traffic will actually convert and what your cost per lead and cost per sale will be.
4) There are a good number of clicks on all top 10 organic results. Even the last result gets about 3% of people to click on it – this is about the same rate as the second pay per click ad, and unlike the ad, its free!
SEO wins day in and day out. Search engine marketing is an expensive way to drive traffic. Contrary to popular belief SEO can be almost instant and that is the real purpose of this post to show how fast I can get it to rank for certain terms. I bet it will be faster than the time it takes to set up a pay per click campaign. Should see results in minutes not in ages, the term used to denigrate SEO. I took it as a challenge from Dealer.com
I’ll report back with results.

Bannings by Digg = Pure Marketing Genius
Posted by: | CommentsDigg.com has started banning the users that has made their site successful. It appears that they go through cycles where this happens. Nothing new to habitual diggers. This in turn causes an uproar of sorts among them and they start revolts.
This behavior is pure marketing genius by digg.com. It causes the people who have not been banned to place more value on their digg profiles and to talk about them, digg, across the blogoshpere. I even got sucked into it, otherwise I never write blog post about digg.com.
The thing is this is a group of intelligent individuals who have helped digg raise the value of their site and they don’t even realize that the bannings is digg.com’s way of manipulating them to help digg users self moderate and promote their site.
Digg is the biggest player in the social media space and their bannings are pure marketing genius. Kevin Rose knows this. Digg’s marketing department knows this. I just wonder if the users that are whining do?
Concerns have been raised raised by individuals worrying that blogging about this phenomenon that they will lose their digg account. That is allowing a site that does not contribute to their bottom line occupy more space in their mind than is healthy by any means. They just need to understand, digg is happy that they are getting post like this and allowing a single site they have no control over to control their thoughts and actions is taking away time better spent doing a multiple of things, like building their< business.
The bannings at Digg.com Will Continue
Get over it, spend your time on things that bring you value not someone else’s business model. You will be glad you did. I have better things to do as well, like working on DrivingSales and my personal online marketing properties. Digg be damned, they don’t control my business model.
How to have some fun and make some spending money
Posted by: | CommentsI love to participate in social networks and have met many of my close friends by participating in them. One of my better friends just created a Green Blog. I really do not know how is going to monetize it but more power to him. I just don’t see people who are interested in “green” content buying much online unless they are trying to open a business using green operations.
On another note in a recent pugilistic back an forth about dealer micro sites at a social network I belong to there was banter about why I made a squidoo page about Tulsa Special Auto Finance. It was more to prove a point on how easy it is to rank for non competitive search terms. There is not much value in it other than the few affiliate commissions it will generate.
Oh well the net is a fun place to work and live. Maybe some day in the very near future auto dealers will learn about social engagement.
How much content is enough?
Posted by: | CommentsI love to write content and lately I have not been adding much to this site and must apologize to my readers. This site is not a primary money maker but more of a networking tool and really I do not have much desire to get deeply involved with the “Make Money Niche” I just share things that I do and keep people updated on some things that are coming down the pipe.
One thing that has happened is that I have a tremendous amount of content on the web. Most of it highly niche targeted and the rewards are awesome. Sometimes though I just do not have the energy to keep delivering new pieces of content on a daily basis and it carries over for weeks and month on end!!
One thing that happens though when you get to the level of traffic I am getting in my “niches” is the income still comes in regularly like clock work so the need to provide more content becomes secondary to other activities online, like networking.
Both activities provide for an opportunities to generate income and to expand your portfolio. However it is the content that has been published that opens up these networking opportunities or even shuts doors at times.
So if you ever feel like giving up remember this. Provide value added content on a regular basis without the money being the primary objective and it will flow. Just be open to networking opportunities and become a giver too!!
User Generated Content and bad IM Blogs
Posted by: | CommentsSocial Media outlets like Squidoo, Hub Pages, Myspace and Face Book rely on their users to create content to support their business models and they are doing a fine job. I personally like Hub Pages and Squidoo as SEO tools and they also do generate some income for me, but they are not my primary marketing vehicles.
Relying solely on user generated content platforms as your primary marketing vehicle is akin to remodeling a kitchen in a rented home. If you do not have a place to carry your primary message and using these platforms to drive traffic to your properties you are making a critical error in your content driven marketing efforts.
Blogging in it’s self is not the end all either. Blogging should be used to brand yourself or to deliver your product message as a CMS. I happen to use blogs for niche sites ranging from Identity Theft to Automotive affiliate marketing but they are not my primary message. My first effort in personal branding as resource in internet marketing has met a resounding response because of that blogs I have been picked up by a major affiliate marketing media outlet to publish a story in hard print and online. I have also been recently interviewed by Nancy Dunham for an article on Web 2.0 for auto dealers to be published by AutoExec by NADA based on Social Networking.
I am now completely rethinking my efforts for the next phase of my internet marketing career. I am fortunate that my sites that I have on web today do provide a very nice income for my family and require little maintenance. A post here a post there, but they do not have a personal branding message nor do they help my visitors identify with me. Building niche sites is fun and profitable but those efforts will never provide the stability or income that can be built through branding and selling content.
I see so many errors in the Make Money Niche in their blogging efforts it is laudable. With every post being a presell for the next greatest product or must do program and those akin to search engine spam, not providing the reader with any valuable information. While those types of blogs can and do make people money, or they would not do them, they still should not the “home base blog” for those individuals to attract a following of readers or a sphere of influence.
Because of my current paradigm shift I will be reworking this blog in the near future to be a more valuable resource to Internet Marketers in and out of the Make Money Niche. Even though SEO is my strongest asset it is now time to teach others in the techniques I use and not be so tight lipped about niches I am prospering in.
My new mantra is provide value first and let the money flow as a resource.

If you have ever struggled getting traffic to a new blog here is a cure.
Syndicate your content across the Blogsphere with a new type of Traffic Exchange.
If you will look in the bottom right side bar you will see other blog headlines from other bloggers. This is a widget you can add to your blog and earn your spot on other peoples blogs.
It works just like a traffic exchange for every visit to your blog page you will earn credits for your headlines to appear on other blogs in the network. This will probably not drive a lot of traffic but it will drive some if you use a catchy headline. I would not recommend this service as a primary source of blog promotion but it should be used as a cog in the wheel of your promotion tactics.
You will also earn credits for people you refer through ten levels. Give it a try it is free and the widget will actually spice up your site theme.
